1970′s Television Race Relations- White Shadow: “A Simple Massa Will Do”
Sep 17th
You sure as hell couldn’t get away with this today, but in 1978, when Ken Reeves (white basketball coach at a predominantly black high school in LA) talks to Sybil, the black female vice principal, the racial language heats up!
The following exchange is from the episode, Pregnant Pause:
Sybil: Buy you a cup of coffee, Mr. Reeves?
Reeves: Only if you promise to stop calling me “Mr. Reeves.” A simple “massa” will do.
I love The White Shadow. I remember being in 7th grade and begging my mom to let me stay up till midnight on school nights (Sundays I think it was) to watch the show on Nick at Night. She’d always say yes, and my love the series was born. I was watching the season 1 box set the last few notes, and I never noticed this exchange before. I laughed out loud. Big time. It was a different time. He meant nothing by it, and they had a good relationship in the show. I just thought it was surprising to see how things have changed,
“And That Happened” (John Mayer’s Faux Sportscasting)

Guy Who Has No Idea About Baseball Calls The Game (Hilarious)
Hilarious faux baseball commentary.
John Mayer is officially my new hero. I’ve seen a lot of him lately on various things where he’s playing jokes on the paparazzi and such. You’re cool in my book when you turn intrusive interviews around and make the entertainment “reporter” feel like an idiot. (which he recently did with Ryan Seacrest)…
ChiComs Completely Inept at Public Image Issue
Apr 11th
The Chinese government is evil. Communism is, itself, evil. You can deny it till your blue in the face, but the world has known no greater threat to peace, freedom, and human life than communism in the 20th century. A new century has come, but the face of communism hasn’t suddenly changed.
Can we agree that the International Olympic Committee is just out of its mind for even thinking of allowing China to host international games? The idea wasn’t just foolish, it was offensive to all people who love freedom and human dignity and life itself. I don’t think even think there’s any need to go into the list of evils that exist within China and specifically with the regime that holds a death grip on a once great nation.
I wanted to take a second to ponder the Chinese lack of any common sense when it comes to the public images it displays. The thing that I’ve noticed with all the protest videos connect to the torch relay are these idiots in the blue tracksuits. These Chinese “torch protecters” are apparently part of China’s People’s Armed Police. These thugs, if you’ve seen any of the video have been right in the mele, pushing people, nearly fighting with protesters, and according to reports- these guys have just been thugs by swiping Tibetan flags, signs, and so forth.

It’s the epitome of an inept government to have no sense of what a brigade of uniformed armed torch protectors looks like to most of us. I see these blue track suit fools, and I notice that they all look identical…which would make sense in a nation that simply destroys the idea of personal identitym and is all about doing your best to turn anyone and everyone into a mindless, unthinking zombie who can do nothing but spout the party line. I also wonder who in their right mind allowed this brigade of thugs to even get anywhere near protesters, let alone allow them to be seen tussling with those who lined the relay route.
This is all indicative of a regime that has no true sense of reality. The Chinese seem to be completely clueless as to how to protray a positive image…or any sane image at all. And, it’s no wonder…any nation that embraces a soul-destroying system like communism would probably be the last regime to ever have any clue as to how to portray themselves in any positive light.
MORE: I just found this from the Wall Street Journal on the torch protecters and their link to Tibet.
Beijing Olympics Will Shine Light on Brutal Regime
Apr 6th
The olympics…an important event to bring the world together, if only briefly. The International Olympic Committee should be ashamed of itself, as should world leader’s who stand by and say nothing about the boneheaded decision to host the 2008 games in a brutal, barbaric, and backwards communist nation that has a near stranglehold in all its citizens. In the modern world, there should be no acceptable reason why a nation as evil as China should ever host any international event, let alone something as big as the olympics.
The torch was run through London today, and protesters did their best to stop the torch run. Now, I don’t agree with some of these idiots fighting with police and such or even trying to stop the torch run itself- you have a right to express your opinion, but no right to force that opinion down the throats of others- let stupid people make stupid decisions, I say…but I wholly support protesting the events surrounding the games and complete boycotts of the games and any company that sponsors the game. Economics is one thing, but bringing down a brutal thuggish regime like in China should be a much higher priority. I can only hope that this nonstop protesting will shed even more like on the depressing communist regime and communism as a system itself. (newsflash- communism is an utter failure devoid of any positives).
Beyond the companies that sponsor the event- world leaders that take part in any aspect of the games should, I think, be ashamed of themselves as well. You take part in the games, and you lend credibility to the Chinese regime and the system it foolheartedly props up. It’s rather pathetic that it took Chinese violence against protesters in Tibet recently for any major world leaders to even say anything about the situation.
I understand economics, and the role China (unfortunately) plays in the world ecomony, which is why I would move to slowly remove the communist system brick by brick in China…a slow process that would take a number of years to completely destroy, but something that would take place in less than a decade. Why the world won’t gather around the idea of destroying the communist rule in China (and elsewhere- North Korea for example) just boggles the mind. If freedom in nations like Iraq and Afghanistan are worthy goals- why not a nation that holds 20% of the world’s population?
Hopefully the olympic games can shine a brightter light on the brutality of the Chinese government as well as the basic problems that need to be resolved here- there might be some good that comes out of all of it, but even that doesn’t excuse the shameful move by the IOC to hold the games in Beijing.
Washington Nationals Fans Show Their Lack of Class with the President
Apr 1st
President Bush threw the ceremonial first pitch at the season opener and first game from the brand new National Park in DC (VIDEO HERE). Many of the fans booed the president. Whether you like the guy or not, booing is classless, and it’s an embarassment to the team, the players, and the city itself.
There’s no excuse for this sort of behavior. It makes the people involved look like bratty children…adults with class don’t act this way. They don’t like someone all that much, they simply clap less or maybe not clap at all, but for heaven’s sakes folks- shows some damned respect. You’re lucky it’s 2008…through most of history you would have had your ass handed to you for such nonsense.
Stay classy you tactless juveniles.
Ken Burns’ Annoying Obsession with Race
Mar 22nd
Ken Burns…America’s documentarian. I’m sure someone has penned a line like that somewhere in response to his numerous documentaries that air on PBS. I watched his latest documentary, The War (it was boring and tedious)…I’ve seen Jazz (it wasn’t really about jazz history or the music, but rather mostly about race and race relations)…I’m watching the first disc to Baseball right now, and I’m already getting Burns’ tired act. I have a feeling this is going to be a 12 hour film on race, racism, and all things regarding race.
One has to wonder why Burns doesn’t just get this annoying repetition out of his system by producing “Racism: A Ken Burn’s Film”.
Call me crazy (go ahead), but Burns has got to be one of the most overrated directors in the country. We all love to fawn all over his films as if they’re genius…pretending they’re not completely boring and one-sided, because we want to look smart and chic. Which is another thing- Burns’ stuff is so completely tainted by his liberal politics. That and he’s far too politically correct for his own good. From what I’ve seen, most people can’t stand the very idea of being politically correct. It’s phony and annoying to put on an act just to be “safe” or say things that are safe and good and all full of love, no matter what your true feelings are. A documentarian that can’t stop injecting his political leanings into his films is a hack in my book…and it’s worse when the films are boring because of these leanings.
I will try to make it thru Baseball, but I have a feeling Burns won’t disappoint here and will likely turn it into yet another examination of race in America. Which is a shame, because baseball is quite a worthy subject for a long form piece like this…just without the obsession with race and political correctness. (IF that turns out to be the case, as it seems to be from disc 1)…
NBC Sports to Ruin Football by Adding Keith Olbermann
Aug 22nd
NBC Sports is adding one of the most divisive men in America to their Sunday night football pre-game show. The network added Keith Olbermann (uber-liberal and Bush hater) to the show preceding their Sunday night match.
Why on earth any network would add this man to a sports how is beyond me. You can be a fan of Olby if you want, but no one can deny he’s a very radical guy here. I won’t give NBC sports a second of my time with this nonsense…
NAACP: Vick Innocent Until Proven Guilty…Those Duke Lacrosse Players? No comment!
Jul 31st
I love it. The NAACP seems to think that it has to come out and have a press conference because a black man in America is indicted for a crime, yet he’s not yet gone to trial and been convicted by a jury of his peers.
Why did they decide to have a press conference? No idea. It’s absurd. Because he’s a black man, they have to come out and support him? And if Hitler were a black man? Of course I’m not comparing Vick (whether he’s guilty or not) to Hitler…but it seems that these groups (Al Sharpton is coming out to support him as well) go all out to support a person just because of the color of his skin. Why do groups like the NAACP do this? Is brutal dogfighting a new way to fight for the “advancement” of “colored people”?? They make themselves look foolish and useless when they come out for any black American simply because he or she is black.
Worse- do they only care about black Americans? Where were they when the Duke lacrosse players were wrongfully accused of raping a black stripper who completely made the story up? Why no press conference then? Why no calls for fairness, let’s wait to see what a jury says about the issue?
Would an organization that bills itself as a defender of “whites” come out to defend anyone in the spotlight, no matter how guilty the person looks, just because that person is white? Would a race-based organization that is connected to white Americans even be allowed to exist without riots outside the organization’s headquarters? Why the double standard? Why the obsession with race to begin with. When can we live in the world King dreamed of- one that didn’t see color, but rather character?
Sign #1,000,999 That Society has Gone Crazy: Gay Day at the Ballpark
Jul 11th
“Pride” day at Peto Park, home of the San Diego Padres. Why? Seriously…why? Do they have proud to be straight days? I’m always concerned about people that live their lives defined by who they want to have sex with. It’s deeply disturbing. They have one main goal- normalize homosexuality. They want an end to traditional morality, traditional marriage, and traditional society. Many of these folks want an all or nothing society, a world that says “anything goes” and to hell with “normal” or “traditional”.
It’s terrible to see a major league team doing all they can to destroy traditional marriage and society and normalize what no one can call normal in any way, shape, or form. It is, by definition, abnormal, and only someone with a big agenda will claim that being abnormal is just fine. What’s worse- these pinheads decided it would be a good idea to have gay pride day and a promotion giving free hats to kids on the SAME DAY! It’s not bad enough that parents have to explain to their children why two men are making out in the seats next to them, the parents have to do this on a night that was promoted as a game night for kids!
Traditional marriage is the backbone of society itself…to minimize that and promote alternatives, claiming that they’re somehow okay and normal is just wrong. It’s this sort of thing that has, throughout history, destroyed societies from within. When a nation says to hell with morality and tradition, that’s a nation in trouble.

UPDATE: Going thru the reports, I see the Padres are claiming that it was merely a bulk ticket purchase from a gay organization…they timed the event to be on a Sunday (when they have kids’ night) according to the spokesperson. But, the Padres site promotes the even on their own website, and even promote a discount for people who get the code from the leader of the pride group. The Padres also welcomed the group on their scoreboard, and the national anthem was song by the gay men’s choir (the fact that gays even think they have to have their own choirs is deeply unsettling itself.)
So, the Padres are…well, they’re lying. This wasn’t just a bulk ticket buy. This was a promotion of a lifestyle that most parents wouldn’t want their kids seeing, let alone celebrating.
