Are Fools Running Golden Colorado? Time for a “Holiday Tree”
Nov 13th
Saw this story from the AP. A rabbi in Golden, Colorado wanted to put up a menorah next to the city Christmas tree and light display. Problem is, the menorah was 8 feet wide. Call me crazy, but it sounds the rabbi is trying to cause trouble and prove a point. This thing was 6 feet tall and 8 feet wide- it’s huge. I wouldn’t want to place it either.
Worse than the size, the Golden city council wants to ban ALL religious symbols from public land. They’re going to start calling their Christmas tree a holiday tree in order to be more “inclusive.”
A few points- you simply cannot ban religious symbols, especially not jewish or christian symbols. This nation is, and has always been, a nation founded in Judeo-Christian beliefs. The first Americans to colonize here were deevout Christians, the founders were, for the most part, devout Christians (no matter what the atheists try to tell you). Those two value systems dominate, and they form a sacred tradition that provides a rich history for the nation. There’s no logical argument to conclude that religious symbols can be banned to begin with…what part of free exercise is so hard to understand? What part of not inhibiting that exercise, in whatever form, is so complicated?
You have to wonder about people who go on and about on being inclusive. What does that even mean? To be truly inclusive, you must set aside all judgement and allow whatever and whenever. The idea of being inclusive usually gets tagged with a positive connotation, but for me it’s sort of like the people that constantly talk about not judging others. Of course I judge others…we all do, and we do it all the time. And thank God we do! Value judgements between right and wrong tell us who to associate with and who not to (our next president seems to lack this inherent sense, but that’s another story), what actions to take and what actions to stay away from, etc. They guide us in our lives, and they help us choose which path to follow. I don’t want to be inclusive to all, because a lot of value systems and the people who follow them are clearly wrong, often an annoyance, and sometimes even dangerous.
And this whole idea of calling a Christmas tree a holiday tree is insanity. It’s infuriating, because there’s no reason to do it. Christmas is a federally recognized holiday, plain and simple. It’s a Christian holiday for a Christian nation. You will never make everyone happy, so why piss off so many with actions like this? Call it a Christmas tree, alllow certain religious symbols, and fight your way to the US Supreme Court if it comes down to it. Sure, it’ll cost money, but is it more important to save the taxpayers money while flushing the Constitution or more important to worry about what the fight will cost you?
In the end, this shouldn’t be an issue at all. It’s a sign of the times that we even have to discuss this matter to begin with, and that is, more than anything else, a depressing fact.
Noelle (Christmas Movie) on DVD Nov 11
Nov 9th

Let me just take a second to recommend a great independent Christian film for the holidays. Noelle was released last year near Christmas, and it’s just wonderful.
I happened upon it by accident just by seeing the information on the local theatre’s website. I decided to give it a shot, and I’m glad I did. A chance encounter with a wonderful feel-good movie that is totally family friendly. Some called it anti-Catholic, but it’s not anti-Catholic at all. In fact, it’s very much pro-Christian and pro-Catholic in most ways. The fallen heroes in the movie just happen to be priests…so, anything that happens is not an attack on them as priests but rather their failings as people.
Will have to pick this up Tuesday at Wal Mart.
Photoshop(ped): Haunted History Of Halloween DVD Box Cover
Oct 19th
I’ve been working in Photoshop outside my class work again. This here is pretty basic stuff, but I notice the History Channel special, The Haunted History of Halloween airs this week and next (over several showings). I wanted to record it to DVD then create a DVD label for the box cover. I have finished the front cover and will work on the back cover and the spine soon.
I will import the front cover into a wraparound DVD cover tutorial I found here. The dimenions that site gives are a bit off from mine, and I didn’t take into consideration the bleed (frankly, I’m not entire certain what that all means, as I haven’t looked into that process indepth yet). But, it should fit fairl well, I think. To get my dimensions, I simply measured a DVD at home and got 5.377 x 7.377. Hope this helps for anyone wanting to make their own DVD covers.
Below are (1) the original actual DVD cover (which I based the basic layout on), (2) my draft version, (3) my final version with the text “THE HISTORY CHANNEL” changed from Times New Roman to Charlemagne. Changine the font sort of officially changes the whole logo itself, as that font is part of their branding, but it’s for my own use and I wasn’t going for exact.

Columbia Journalism Review’s Dishonest Claim on McCain / Parsley
May 3rd
Amazing. I wonder if these people just write whatever fantasies they invent in their heads, or if they’re clueless and actually believe the bile they spew.
Zachary Roth writes for Columbia Journalism Review with the headline: “Rod Parsley’s Free Pass
Jeremiah Wright gets torched, while McCain’s “spiritual adviser” offends with impunity”. Now, maybe he didn’t write the headline- that sort of thing happens all the time in print, no idea what the situation is here though.
No matter- whoever wrote the headline was dishonest. Notice it says McCain’s “spiritual adviser”, yet if you read the article, you will only see “spiritual adviser” used once- it’s the term that OBAMA used in regards to his relationship with his racist, anti-American Rev Wright. NOWHERE else in the article does the term “spiritual adviser” exist. So, whoever wrote the headline is either 1) blind or 2) a dishonest fool.
The point of the article is to claim that McCain has been given a pass on his relationship with Rod Parsley, a pastor of a megachurch in Ohio. One major problem though- McCain is not a member of Parsley’s church and has never met the man until 3 weeks ago. He called Parsley a “spritiual guide” to many people, but never claimed he was a guide to McCain himself in any manner. Obama, remember, chose the church and attended for over 20 years under Wright…Wright baptised his children and married Barack and Michelle. He sat in the pews week after week listening to a man whose core values are racist, hateful, and anti-American.
This is a lame-brained attempt at equating McCain meeting a man for 20 mins and Barack being spiritual guided by a man for 20 years. Yes, this argument is just plain stupid and doesn’t even come close to matching reality.
In the aricle, he says:
Parsley has his own history of controversial statements. As David Corn reported this week for Mother Jones, Parsley has called for Christians to wage war against the “false religion” of Islam, in order to destroy it. He does not distinguish between Islamic extremists and ordinary Muslims. “What some call ‘extremists’ are instead mainstream believers who are drawing from the well at the very heart of Islam,” he has written.
And it’s not just Muslims he’s got it in for. Last year, Parsley’s organization called for people who commit adultery to be prosecuted, and in January he compared Planned Parenthood to the Nazis.
This itself is just odd. I’m really not even sure why he’s trying to paint McCain is some sort of extremist based on these two items. They’re, in all truthfulness, not all that radical for most Americans, and surely not for most conservative Christians (which Parsley is).
1) Most Christians believe that islam is a false religion. ANYTHING outside of Christianity is a false religion (thus, an evil practice). This isn’t extremism, this is Jesus Christ himself speaking. It’s the most important commandment in the OT- to have no other Gods before the true God. God, in the OT and NT destroys people for worshipping false Gods and makes it clear that he will not tolerate such practices in general. How is this extremist?? Parsley wants to destroy islam? islam was founded by a mass murderer- I’m sorry, but let’s stop using kid gloves when we speak of the religion. It would be the goal of most conservative Christians to wage a mental battle against false religions. That’s what the Bible teaches!
2) Parsley compared Planned Parenthood to the nazis. And? This is common thought among many conservatives. How many people did the nazis kill? How many babies have Planned Parenthood killed? Do the math folks, the nazis have lower figures. Isn’t that enough for an equivocation, if you believe that an aborted baby is a life taken? I’m not sure how that’s so radical or extreme.
Seems like a lot of grasping at straws to try to make McCain look bad and make Obama look not so far out there. No matter, the headline/article combination is dishonest overall, and even if this preacher was a nutcase, there’s no comparison. 20 mins and 20 years- apples and oranges.
4th of July
Jul 5th
So…what did everyone do on the 4th of July? I woke up around 11AM, ate an assortment of veggies, went to the pet store to look at bunnies and guinea pigs, took all my loose change (in a pop tart box) to a coinstar machine and got $51…ate grilled hamburgers (the frozen patty kinds- gross), macaroni and cheese, green beans, and corn…went to find a place that sold fireworks and bought some bottle rockets and sparklers (the bottle rockets for my pleasure, the sparklers for someone else)…came back to the house after finding a place that sold fireworks, walked I’d guess a mile to get to the large hill that overlooks the riverfront (Ohio River) for the fireworks…watched them, came home and swam in the pool for over an hour. And, now I’m here after watching an episode of SPACED (British comedy from the makers of Shaun of the Dead), the second season premiere of PEEP SHOW (another British comedy), and eating some macaroni salad, because it’s good and it’s good for you. It’s probably not, but let’s pretend…
I have a second bunny now. A lop eared white bunny. It’s a female, same as the first. It’s not mine actually, but it’s staying here sort of. Complicated. They’re currently snuggled together (again), and they’re both on their sides. This is doubly good- they have bonded AND they both feel comfortable and safe (on their sides, no legs under them to quickly get away from danger.)
I’d get a pic of them snuggling together, but it’s hard enough to see thru the cage bars, let alone not arouse their suspicion by moving all close when they’re trying to nap. I have no doubt, when I get out of this chair to lie down in bed, they will be moving about from my slight movement, soft sounds, what have you…Oh well. It’s cute, and you’ll just have to take my word for it.
I need to check to see when MONSTER HOUSE opens. I want to see that movie.
