USA Series Burn Notice and Psych Coming to Comic-Con (July 23)!

USA NETWORK’S CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED ORIGINAL SERIES –
BURN NOTICE AND PSYCH – COME TO COMIC-CON ON THURSDAY, JULY 23

BURN NOTICE’s Bruce Campbell and PSYCH’s James Roday, Dulé Hill & Corbin Bernsen

plus series creators to give inside scoop in back-to-back panels

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – July 9, 2009 – On Thursday, July 23, 2009, USA Network, the #1 cable network, will participate in Comic-Con for the first time with talent and creators from two of its critically acclaimed and top rated shows – BURN NOTICE and PSYCH.

With its foray into Comic-Con, BURN NOTICE, the #1 scripted show on cable, will be represented by cast members Bruce Campbell who stars as Sam Axe, everyone’s favorite washed-up military intelligence officer; Seth Peterson who plays Nate Westen, Michael’s (Jeffrey Donovan) brother; Ben Shenkman who plays Strickler, a smooth-talking, gregarious freelance spy broker; and Jay Karnes who plays Brennen, an arms dealer who has a vendetta against Michael upon ruining a lucrative deal he had in the works. No stranger to Comic-Con, Campbell is a fan favorite from such hits as “Evil Dead” and “Evil Dead 2.” Along with the four stars, creator/writer/executive producer Matt Nix and co-executive producer/writer Alfredo Barrios Jr. will give an insider’s look at the writing process and share behind-the-scenes anecdotes. Fans will get an exclusive sneak peek at an upcoming Season 3 episode of the show. Michael Shanks – who starred in “Stargate SG-1” for ten years and who will be guest starring on BURN NOTICE in a four-episode arc at the beginning of next year – will be moderating the panel.

Also making its Comic-Con debut is the hit original series PSYCH, which will have the entire cast on hand including James Roday, who plays Shawn Spencer, solving crimes for the Santa Barbara police department in his own special way; Dulé Hill who plays Shawn’s best friend and reluctant sidekick Gus; Corbin Bernsen as Shawn’s disapproving father; and Maggie Lawson and Timothy Omundson who play the police detectives O’Hara and Lassiter who reluctantly rely on Shawn’s skills; along with creator/writer/executive producer Steve Franks. Executive producers Chris Henze and Kelly Kulchak will also be on the panel. Fans will have their chance to ask the panelists what it really takes to put together a show about a fake psychic, with never-before-seen footage. Developed exclusively for Comic-Con, the audience will be taken from “script to screen” documenting the process of creating an episode. They will be introduced to the writing and creative teams, as well as see the Vancouver set, meet the production team and the cast, and become part of how each episode comes to life. The PSYCH panel will be moderated by Jennifer Godwin, a journalist from E! Entertainment.

BURN NOTICE has had two record-breaking seasons, beating both cable and broadcast networks across all key demos. The show premiered as the #1 new show on cable in 2007, continued its streak as the #1 scripted series on cable in 2008, and it is now the #1 series on cable for 2009 to date. The past season of the show was the most successful of any show in USA’s history, and it delivered the most total viewers USA has seen in over eight years (7.6 million). BURN NOTICE is a sexy action-packed series starring Jeffrey Donovan as Michael Westen, a blacklisted spy who finds himself stranded in sun-soaked Miami without money, resources, or a clue as to who burned him, or why. The only tools at his disposal are his wits, his charm, his special ops training and his “friends:” Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar), a beautiful ex-IRA operative who also happens to be Michael’s ex-girlfriend, and Sam (Bruce Campbell), a washed-up military intelligence contact who works as Michael’s sidekick, and his mother (Emmy Award-winner Sharon Gless), who Michael has spent most of his adult life trying to avoid.

Rob Zombie Set to Write and Direct Next HALLOWEEN Film

I’m a huge fan of the HALLOWEEN movie series. The original is a classic, and I have 3 or 4 different VHS released and 3 DVD releases- the version that was put out at first, the remastered version, and the version with some extras. There are probably 5 other versions out there including limited editions.

Anyhow- the last few films have been terrible in my mind. Halloween 7 and 8 were awful…so I guess just the last 2 movies were bad. I actually liked part 6, tho most fans didn’t care for it. It might actually be my second fav of the bunch.

So, I checked out halloweenmovies.com, and I see a news release for HALLOWEEN 9- and none other than Rob Zombie is writing and directing the film. Not sure how I feel about this…he says it’s going to be sort of prequel/remake, but who knows what it will turn out to be. I have a bad feeling, because I saw his 2 films so far and both were just downright horrible. Worse than horrible- they were pointless trips into stupidity…with the worst 2 scripts to see the light of day, awful plotlines that made no sense at all, bad acting, laughable “scares” and more. Both films I saw in the theatre, and neither one ever deserved to see the light of any day, let alone a big screen debut nationwide.

Anyway- here is the press release.

They even have a Q&A with Zombie on the site.

I noticed Anchor Bay (a company that always puts out quality sets) have divimax DVD versions of Halloween 4 and Halloween 5 out this month as well as a new documentary with 2 discs called HALLOWEEN 25 YEARS OF TERROR, narrated by Halloween legend, PJ Soles. It seems this set will also come with a special comic book as well.

Speaking of Halloween comics- I have the first and second comics, but I never picked up the 3rd one. I wonder where I could get a nice copy in good condition.

Superman Looks Like a Sissy

I’m not big on superhero movies in general. I saw Batman way back in 89, I think it was, but I was a kid…I never saw Spiderman- Toby Maguire fighting anybody is just a joke- he’s way too sissy to be super-anything. I’m trying to think of other “superhero” flicks, but all I can think of is XMEN, and I’ve never seen any of those movies either. Animated superhero stuff is okay- I liked Justice League a lot, but when it comes to live action movies based on superheroes, they all come off as sissy.

The best case of this is with this new Superman. He looks like the world’s biggest sissy who has some odd fetish for wearing tights and a huge cape that makes his already smallish frame look ever smaller and wimpier. I might go see Superman Returns just because I like IMAX versions of movies, but it’s hard to say if I will like it at all.

Check out the pictures below, and tell me that live action Superman just doesn’t cut it. I went to a couple comics message boards and even IGN where they discussed the new costume for this movie, and I see that many people think this guy cast as Superman looks way too wimpy and that the costume is all wrong. Not all agree and think he looks totally “badass”, of course, but here’s my take.

Check out Superman as shown here from The Justice League.

Superman from Justice League

This guy is BUILT. He’s definitely SUPER in all aspects. The thing about animation and comics is that he doesn’t look like he’s wearing tights at all. He just looks like natural- like the suit was made for him and he was made for it. Seriously- why, in live action versions, does ANY superhero wear tights? What villian in his right mind would be frightened by some dude in tights? Tights, for heaven’s sake! Anyhow- this superman just works. He looks “super,” he looks like he could take on bad guys, he doesn’t look at all sissy or wimpy.

Now, take a look at two pictures of the new superman from Superman Returns.

Superman from Superman Returns

Superman from Superman Returns

He’s just not super. He looks small. He looks sissy…he’s wearing tights and wimpy looking boots that look like they were taken from some hobbit movie. I see him with his cape swinging behind him, and he actually looks like a hobbit who escaped from Lord of the Rings. Tell me he doesn’t look like a total girlie-man!

Can someone tell me why on earth his S logo is so tiny? And why does it look like he’s wearing a tiny speedo? Those are definitely what you call “short shorts!” Finally- if you notice, even the Justice League version of Superman has the curly hair hanging down in the front…Superman Returns is the same deal. But, for me, in live action that big curl just looks sissy itself. I admit it looks sort of sissy even in the comic and animated version, but it doesn’t look as bad as on a real actor. I never understood why on earth Superman, being a superhero and all, looks like he just came from the nerd convention in that his hair is plastered to his skull in the ‘I just won the science fair’ look, while at the same time he’s got that sissy curly lock hanging down like he just left the salon and asked the gayest stylist to make him look as girlish as possible.

I think, with this new film, the casting was terrible. The costume is terrible. The idea to keep using a smallish guy in tights as a superhero is still a bad idea. In the end, Superman is a sissy. Face it.

WH Press Corps Member Asks if Cheney Should be Forced to Resign Over Hunting Accident

A reporter during the White House Press Briefing on Feb 13 asked the following idiotic question:

Not sure exactly who “Connie” is, but this woman is an idiot.

    MR. McCLELLAN: Go ahead, Connie.

Q Is it proper for the Vice President to offer his resignation or has he offered his resignation –

MR. McCLELLAN: That’s an absurd question. Go ahead, Ken. (White House Press Briefing 2/13/06)

Ted Rall: A Cretin AND a Liar

Ted Rall is full of it. He appeard on Hannity and Colmes and when confronted with his disgusting cartoon about Pat Tillman by Hannity, he claimed that he was promised by the producer of the show that no one would bring that up. Sean told him that they never make ANY promises to ANY guests. Now, Alan Colmes, the liberal of the show was totally nice to Rall, and he never said anything about his own work…but, unfortunately for Rall- Colmes did point out that they NEVER make promises to guests as to what will and won’t be discussed or asked. It seems Rall is surely the one who is lying. In his blog, he complains and claims that the producer of the show is a liar and not to trust him- then he later says that the producer of the show is an old classmate of his.

Here’s Rall’s lame complaint from his blog:

    Hannity & Colmes Postscript

    Caveat dessinator.

I’ve appeared on many television programs, including on Fox, and have made deals with producers prior to appearing. Before my appearance on “Hannity & Colmes” tonight, I negotiated the following terms:

    1. No mention whatsoever of my cartoons, current or previous, or my work in general. I’m just there to discuss Tom Toles’ cartoon and the Danish Mohammed cartoon series.

    2. Mention my radio show.

    3. Show images of my book.

I know they did 3. They may have done 2. Number 1, on the other hand, they lied about. Halfway through the discussion, after only having discussed Toles (no Mohammed), Hannity began his simpleminded “you have no heart, you have no soul” routine while displaying a fuzzy version of my Pat Tillman cartoon. Boy, did I ever feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football while Lucy held it.

I certainly lit into Hannity, but that’s not the point. The point is, if you go onto that show, you cannot trust their producer. If they tell you you’re there to discuss a cartoon, they may ambush you with anything and anyone they want. Just as a fellow cartoonist warned me about Katie Couric’s ambushing tendencies–I refused her show’s invitation because of this–I’m warning you now.

“Hannity & Colmes” is much worse than a right-wing shoutfest for and by idiots (yes, including me). It is run by unprofessional liars.

P.S. The producer who made these promises, perhaps because he was a college classmate of mine, apologized for ten minutes after the show, saying he was shocked when he saw the Pat Tillman cartoon queued up on the control board because he had been specifically told that it wouldn’t be there. “Be prepared for a very angry guest,” he told the technicians. He was partly trying to diffuse responsibility, but there was likely some truth to his story.

    Anyway, consider yourself warned.

Very few shows will EVER make deals with guests like this…especially this sort of show in this setting. So, I don’t believe a word Rall says.

On top of that- why would Alan lie about the policy when it was Sean who would have been the only one who violated it? Why can’t the cretin that Rall is be honest about even this? Alan was actually nice, and never once mentioned Rall’s own cartoons…he actually sided with him in regards to this new WaPo cartoon that has offended many people.

I guess when you refer to Condi Rice as “Bush’s house nigga,” and attack a slain soldier, you’ve little choice but to lie. Sadly, for Rall, when he looked to Colmes to help him out he was no help at all. I guess that’s what you get when you’re a fool like Ted Rall.

  • Rall’s “house nigga” cartoon
