Some WebStats for the TheBlueSite.com

I’ve never really done much in the past 7 years to spread my website around a lot.  Mainly, because I’m too lazy to update often enough to keep a large readership.  I guess that might change at some point.  Who knows.  I thought it would be interesting to post an analysis of the stats for the past 13 months.  I just paid my yearly hosting bill, so this sort of thing came to mind…

Not too bad for rarely going out to have people link to me, or even writing indepth pieces worthy of linking to.

I used to write longer pieces with more links, more densely packed with background information, but I haven’t done that as often since I changed jobs a few years ago.

At one point, I had all day to write stuff, and could use that time to research topics, stay more up-to-date. Not so much anymore. Busier, more things going on (every so often.)

Like I said…that might all change. Someday. We’ll see.

No matter what the future may bring- thanks to those who read, those who take the time to leave a comment or those who have linked to any of my posts.

Ratatouille Checks

I needed some new checks, so I ordered a box…not just any box. But a box of RATATOUILLE checks from the disney film of the same name (a great movie that I loved).

You’re all jealous, I know. The chicks totally dig it.

I was going to get the address labels, but that was extra, so I said forget that…

Cartoon VS Animated Series

I’m listening to the commentary track of one of the SEASON 4 episodes of HOME MOVIES, and Ron Lynch said something about how Home Movies isn’t a cartoon, but rather animation.

I hate the word cartoon. Cartoons are piddly things that are made…animation, or better “animated series” are full-scale series like any other TV series but animated. There are storylines with story arcs, character development, sometimes intricate plotlines that intersect or background plotlines that work their way through the episodes. Home Movies, in my book, isn’t a cartoon- it’s an animated series.

Watch Batman: The Animated Series and tell me it’s not just like a regular show, just that it’s animated VS live action. That show, as an example, has a brilliant opening theme- the music and the animation to go with it…the show itself is scored brilliantly, the sound effects are spot on for the most part, the characters are devloped throughout the seasons…the storylines are often times semi-complicated. It’s like watching an episode of any well done drama, only there are no real life characters, but rather animated characters that are usually very well voiced by real actors.

I say down with the term ‘cartoon’ altogether and in with ‘animated series.’

Monster House Out Today in Theatres

I had an interview for a new job today…took over an hour, which I thought was a good sign. Hopefully, I’ll get it- it pays more and will offer more hours, but a totally diffrerent shifty (11pm-7am)…not so bad, and it’s Sat and Sun off. Well, off starting 7am Friday to Sunday at 11pm.

It looks promising.

Anyhow- that’s out of the way.

Monster House

Monster House opens today. It’s an animated film (as you can see from the pic above) about a house that eats people. Well, sorta. It looks funny. Better yet- it’s in digital 3D in certain theatres that have digital projectors…one of the local theatres here has it in 3D. It plays at 9:30 tonight, but I’m thinking it’s going to be too busy for my tastes…No telling who might go- many animated films, you’ll see adults and kids alike. So, who knows who might all be there and how many people on a Friday night.

I’ll probably wait till Monday during the day to see it.

Death Clock Metalocalypse

Brendon Small has a new show premiering August 6 on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim
Death Clock Metalocalypse

You can watch a preview of the show here

I’m a HUGE fan of Home Movies and some of his other stuff, but I’m not so sure this looks that funny. It’s hard to say when the preview makes no sense and there’s so little info. out there on what the show is about and all. Something about a comedy featuring the world’s greatest heavy metal band and their adventures, I assume..We’ll see Aug 6, I guess.

New Episodes of Futurama Headed to Comedy Central!

One of my favorite shows, Futurama, is heading to Comedy Central with all new episodes. According to TV.com Comedy Central has ordered 13 new episodes of the series to start airing in 2008.

The cast will return to reprise their roles for the series.

This brings to mind the cancelled series, Family Guy that was restarted by Fox this past year due to huge sales of the show on DVD. Futurama was cancelled by Fox as well and has sold very well on DVD, but the new series didn’t get enough of a boost from the DVD sales to come back to Fox apparently. No matter- it’s coming back somewhere, and that’s all the matters.

Superman Looks Like a Sissy

I’m not big on superhero movies in general. I saw Batman way back in 89, I think it was, but I was a kid…I never saw Spiderman- Toby Maguire fighting anybody is just a joke- he’s way too sissy to be super-anything. I’m trying to think of other “superhero” flicks, but all I can think of is XMEN, and I’ve never seen any of those movies either. Animated superhero stuff is okay- I liked Justice League a lot, but when it comes to live action movies based on superheroes, they all come off as sissy.

The best case of this is with this new Superman. He looks like the world’s biggest sissy who has some odd fetish for wearing tights and a huge cape that makes his already smallish frame look ever smaller and wimpier. I might go see Superman Returns just because I like IMAX versions of movies, but it’s hard to say if I will like it at all.

Check out the pictures below, and tell me that live action Superman just doesn’t cut it. I went to a couple comics message boards and even IGN where they discussed the new costume for this movie, and I see that many people think this guy cast as Superman looks way too wimpy and that the costume is all wrong. Not all agree and think he looks totally “badass”, of course, but here’s my take.

Check out Superman as shown here from The Justice League.

Superman from Justice League

This guy is BUILT. He’s definitely SUPER in all aspects. The thing about animation and comics is that he doesn’t look like he’s wearing tights at all. He just looks like natural- like the suit was made for him and he was made for it. Seriously- why, in live action versions, does ANY superhero wear tights? What villian in his right mind would be frightened by some dude in tights? Tights, for heaven’s sake! Anyhow- this superman just works. He looks “super,” he looks like he could take on bad guys, he doesn’t look at all sissy or wimpy.

Now, take a look at two pictures of the new superman from Superman Returns.

Superman from Superman Returns

Superman from Superman Returns

He’s just not super. He looks small. He looks sissy…he’s wearing tights and wimpy looking boots that look like they were taken from some hobbit movie. I see him with his cape swinging behind him, and he actually looks like a hobbit who escaped from Lord of the Rings. Tell me he doesn’t look like a total girlie-man!

Can someone tell me why on earth his S logo is so tiny? And why does it look like he’s wearing a tiny speedo? Those are definitely what you call “short shorts!” Finally- if you notice, even the Justice League version of Superman has the curly hair hanging down in the front…Superman Returns is the same deal. But, for me, in live action that big curl just looks sissy itself. I admit it looks sort of sissy even in the comic and animated version, but it doesn’t look as bad as on a real actor. I never understood why on earth Superman, being a superhero and all, looks like he just came from the nerd convention in that his hair is plastered to his skull in the ‘I just won the science fair’ look, while at the same time he’s got that sissy curly lock hanging down like he just left the salon and asked the gayest stylist to make him look as girlish as possible.

I think, with this new film, the casting was terrible. The costume is terrible. The idea to keep using a smallish guy in tights as a superhero is still a bad idea. In the end, Superman is a sissy. Face it.
