I guess I should say that politicians and the courts can be the biggest idiots on earth. Basically government in general…overzealous government that wants to run every facet of your life.
I saw this story on The O’Reilly Factor- a woman named Julie Amero, working as a substitute teacher, faces 40 years in prison for pornographic images that were on the PC in the classroom. She claims the porn came from popups that she had no idea how to stop and that she signed an agreement NOT to ever turn the PC off- but to immediately contact an IT official for help. She testified that she called for help 3 different times, and followed the directions not to turn the PC off. 10 students saw images of nude men and women…experts discovered spyware on the PC that would have caused these popup images. It’s quite common. Especially when someone is there and isn’t too familiar with technology.
She’s been found guilty of 4 counts of risk of injury to a minor.
Somehow politicians made laws and courts enforced laws where a person can accidentally allow minors to see nude pictures on a school PC and face more time than someone convicted of first degree murder. We have laws that will ruin a person for life for what amounts to small potatoes. Now, I wouldn’t want a teacher showing my kid porn…but an accident is an accident. From reading 6 stories on this case- it doesn’t seem likely at all that she meant to do this. If she was looking for porn while teaching, why would she show the kids? A person doing bad things like this doesn’t let the bad stuff sit on the PC for hours while calling 3 times for help. People that do bad things HIDE the bad things.
Even if she did this on purpose- 40 years? Are we on a different planet suddenly?
This is government and the courts gone INSANE. COMPLETELY INSANE.
And this story…a 16 year old boy shares Playboy images with his buddies at school…and he faced possible charges that would brand him a sex offender for life!
From ABC’s 20/20:
If Matthew didn’t put the pictures on the computer, how did they get there?
For that answer, they turned to computer forensic expert Tammi Loehrs.
“If you have an Internet connection, high speed, through, let’s say, your cable company, or through the phone company, that computer is always on, and basically you have an open doorway to the outside,” Loehrs said. “So the home user has no idea who’s coming into their computer.”
Loehrs went into the Bandys’ computer and what she found could frighten any parent — more than 200 infected files, so-called backdoors that allowed hackers to access the family computer from remote locations, no where near Matthew’s house.
“They could be on your computer and you’d never know it,” she said.
Loehrs says she does not believe that Matthew uploaded those images onto his computer “based on everything I know and everything I’ve seen on that hard drive.”
A DA that was out for blood, it seems. This fool wants to put a 16 yr boy away for 90 years despite the fact that over 200 infected files were found on the PC. Experts testify that there’s almost no chance the kid had anything to do with any of these pictures uploaded from the family’s IP address- yet the DA carries on.
With this case, too- even if this kid had a few images of child porn downloaded- 90 years? Again, are we still on earth here, folks? Especially given his age of 16…now- this is a serious offense, no doubt, but I will repeat this- you sometimes don’t even get this many years for first degree murder. Which is worse an offense? And at 16 years old…
That’s beside the fact since the evidence shows this kid was guilty of nothing but showing some peers some Playboy images!
Yet government goes nuts. They want to protect the kids so they enact Draconian laws that hardly ever protect the kids, but rather ruin the lives of innocent men, women, and clearly- even children themselves.
Think this is bad…check out last week’s episode of Religion & Ethics Newsweekly from PBS- they had stories of a woman who was branded a sex offender for life simply for allowing her pregnant daughter’s boyfriend to live with them…the girl and the boy later got married and started their family together- the woman was charged with an offense related to now reporting the pregnancy to the police. (pbs.org- they have a podcast of their show, I believe…)
They also did a story of a young Georgia woman who was branded a sex offender for life for…get this- giving oral sex when she was 17. An old Georgia law made this a felony offense. The Legislature went and changed the law but refused to make it retroactive!! Thus, ruining this woman’s life. In Georgia, a teenager making out can equal a life of shame, misery, and despair. The genius state politician they interviewed for the show said that these innocent people caught in the lunacy- it’s basically worth it to get the actual bad guys! To hell with ‘the spirit of the law’ common sense that should exist!
These cases and, no doubt, thousands of others out there paint a grim picture of humanity. Leaders with no common sense. Government with no restraint. Laws that would make a nazi blush with envy. Lunacy running rampant in the courts. Stories like these make you wonder how some people can be so stupid they can make these idiotic laws and legal rulings, yet have the brain power to even tie their own shoes. It’s completely mind-boggling.
UPDATE: Regarding the first story. From reading even more- it’s obvious that Detective Mark Lounsbury- THE computer crimes officer at the Norwich Police Department is an utter fool. He took a 1 hour training session on a simple program called ComputerCop, and in his genius police mind, that’s evidence enough for him that the woman intentionally clicked onto numerous pornographic websites?
Read this story, read his quotes, and you tell me if you think this guy has the mind of a cop!
Saturday night, I went to Blush- this upscale, cosmpolitan, ‘you’re too cool to be here’ bar on the riverfront…It’s connected to a new luxury hotel with lavish suites that have flat screen tv’s in bathrooms complete with shower sprayers that surround you, rain shower heads, that sort of thing.
Anyhow- I’m with a buddy…I came from a thing at work, so I was wearing a suit (I had removed the pink tie) and decided to unbutton the top two buttons- so, I’m basically wearing grayish dress pants, a white button up shirt and a black coat. I feel like an idiot in this place, even though it was near 2 AM, and there were maybe 15 people there. It wasn’t too loud (unlike the previous bar we went to- I couldn’t hear but maybe 5% of all the conversation that took place- which made me feel OUT of place in general.) No one’s fault, of course, but still- it wasn’t the most desireable situation.
So…this place has these big deep couches, very long, red (I think?), and they’re very long with lots of cushions (leather material, I believe.) Tables close by…outside this area are chairs facing each other for couples…weird girls dancing all slutty-like. Big flat screens up high- 2 are playing some weird static image with a moving background of I have no idea what the heck it was…1 was playing what looked to be a documentary on China (Weird, I know), the one behind the bar has ESPN…and there’s one in the corner that’s playing, get this- Life On a Stick.
I’m amazed…wondering how on earth this is playing.
Tonight, it hit me- HDNET. They must have started airing this.
And they have. HDNet has a great lineup of cancelled series. Half of their lineup is a who’s who of my favorite short-lived shows, including Queens Supreme, Hack, Odyssey 5, Robbery Homicide Division, Haunted, and a few others…
The point? Fancy bars don’t excite me…seeing episode of Life On a Stick in fancy bars does excite me. I guess that makes me boring. I’m okay with that…
I have to wonder about MSNBC. That lowest rated of all cable news nets…the home of Krazy Keith Olbermann (full of a never-ending supply of Bush hatred and a sick obsession with Bill O’Reilly)…home to the lefty lowest rated cable news series, Chris Matthews…home of nonstop Chris Hanson and those annoying Dateline NBC “to catch a predator” episodes.
The station is taking a turn toward the tawdry and editorial. With a liberal bent.
Super Size Me, the absurd ‘documentary’ from Morgan Spurlock (definitely not a conservative by any stretch of the imagination), has been playing every weekend a few times on Saturday and Sunday.
Why? I’ve no idea. Propaganda, perhaps?
I was watching it (again)…and the ending really shows you how full of it Spurlock is. The entire film is an anti-McDonalds tirade…disguised as a “golly gee- fast food chains are evil making you CHOOSE to eat at their places. Let’s do what we can to put them out of business for the good of all” piece of proganda.
Here is a video clip of the ending…
(DOWNLOAD VIDEO- 1.5 MB wmv file)
Now, unless you’re a brain-dead zombie, you no doubt noticed a few things he said that didn’t make any sense.
First off- Spurlock can’t decide who to blame. Is it evil McDonalds or you? He says that the argument will be ‘no one eats McDonalds everyday 3 times a day. But, in fact, some do.’ I, myself, have never met a person who eats fast food for every single meal of every single day…or even fast food every meal for half the week. Spurlock wants to tarnish McDonalds with the rare exception out there who eats way too much fast food. Then again- there are people that eat fast food several times a week, never exercise, smoke, and drink, and do nothing about it and live to be 100 years old…while others exercise daily, eat right, and stay as healthy as they can and drop dead of a heart attack at 40. That’s a fact. It happens everyday. So- his message of doom and gloom and certain death is nonsensical from the start.
Secondly- Spurlock complains:
“why not do away with your super size options? Who needs 42 ounces of Coke…a half a pound of fries? And why not give me a choice between french fries and french fries?”
The emphasis I added says so much.
Morgan is a man without direction. It’s McDonald’s fault, but the choice is YOURS. Does this guy not understand the meaning of the word “choice”? It means you literally can choose to never eat at McDonalds period. It means you can choose to NOT super size your meal. But, why take away that choice from those people who DO CHOOSE it? Spurlock is all about choice- demanding that McDonalds offer healthier choices…except, he’s not a big fan of a choice of fries or a super size option. Guess what Morgan? DON’T SUPER SIZE IF YOU HATE IT SO MUCH! Get a clue, man! What’s good for you is what’s demanded of us? How about you let us live our own lives?
Spurlock then goes onto to moan that McDonalds isn’t loyal to you, but rather to the stockholders. This is why they won’t change. Except- their loyalty to the stocholders IS loyalty to you. If you refuse to choose their restaurant, the stockholders aren’t happy. The goal is to keep people coming to McDonalds. And shocking news- people don’t go to McDonalds for healthy food! They go for stuff that isn’t necessarily health food, but it tastes good! There is, in fact, a direct connection between the stockholders and the customers. This is the case with every business. Your goal is to provide a service people want to choose.
He then says “the bottom line- there a business, no matter what they say.”
Now- has anyone EVER heard McDonalds claim otherwise? Is McDonalds running ads proclaiming they’re no longer a business, but rather a health food non-profit? A church maybe? A community group that wants to feed all the good little people salads and vitamin-fortified water? This statement makes no sense…of course they’re a business, and of course they don’t deny that. Why would they? They’d have a hard time bringing in a profit, then trying to claim they’re somehow a not for profit!
Spurlock then whines “by selling you unhealthy food, they make millions, and no company wants to stop doing that.”
No kidding? Thanks, Sherlock Holmes. Companies are in business to make as much money as they can by offering products people will CHOOSE to buy which, in turn, brings in more money. It’s that money that allows the business to keep offering their products. Besides, he’s being dishonest. He wants to portray them as evildoers with the goal of selling unhealthy food when, in fact, their goal is to sell the products people WANT. McDonalds has tried various products over the years…they’re tried the veggie burger, but do you order it? Do you know anyone else that orders it?
McDonalds actually still offers a veggie burger in some markets. Which markets? The ones where the burger can actually sell! They don’t offer it in markets where no one wants it. Most markets can’t sell it, because people don’t want it. Spurlock would have McDonalds force feed you veggie burgers?
McDonalds echoes this obvious point on their own website:
Q: Why doesn’t McDonald’s offer a veggie burger on its national menu?
A: After testing several types of veggie burgers in different parts of the country, we’ve chosen not to offer one on our national menu at this time. We’ll continue to look at these options and make decisions based on good business sense from a customer interest and sales perspective. Ultimately, however, it’s our customers who choose what’s on our menu. We’ll continue to offer those menu items that are most popular with a majority of our customers.
Precisely! A business does what makes good business sense. To STAY IN BUSINESS. To keep employing their millions of workers and the companies that provide them with raw materials to make their products…the companies that make the paper for the straw wrappers, the box companies, the utilities that are paid to utility companies, the taxes paid to local, state, and federal government, and on and on and on. It’s called free market capitalism, and it works. The menu items offered are the ones the CUSTOMERS CHOOSE. Veggie burgers aren’t big business- so you don’t keep it on the menu. Just as you don’t keep a stock of liver and onions on tap for the rare customer that wants liver and onions…you want that, go down the street to the restaurant that serves it!
Morgan goes on to confuse us even more by announcing that the current paradigm can only shift by YOU choosing to make a difference. Eat healthier (duh), don’t eat fast food all the time (duh), don’t always super aize (duh tres).
He ends it by asking- who do you want to see go [into the grave] first- you or them [McDonalds]?
Good question. Answer? Stop the dishonest tactics against the fast food chain…and let US choose. If it’s all about my right to choose- why make this piece of propaganda to begin with?
Better yet- why is this common MSNBC fare now? And is Michael Moore next?
It seems that Yale students will be CELEBRATING Roe V Wade, by performing mock abortions using a papaya.
Here’s part of the story:
On Thursday, the Yale Medical Students for Choice will host workshop on manual vacuum aspiration for medical students, using a papaya as a uterine model. Manual vacuum aspiration is a surgical abortion method that uses a syringe to remove the fetus from a woman’s uterus. Merritt Evans MED ’09 said she thought it was important to have the workshop because the procedure can be used for a variety of different purposes — including miscarriage management and the treatment of a failed medical abortion or ectopic pregnancy — and is inconsistently taught in medical school.
While the workshop is targeted towards medical students, undergraduates are also invited to attend.
“The reason I wanted to include other people is that it is such a simple procedure, but the media attention around it … makes this an emotionally traumatic and a complicated thing,” Evans said. “It’s just to be like, ‘Here is what actually happens, here is what the medical procedure is like, this is what an aborted yolk sac looks like.’ It looks like a piece of cotton.” [emphasis mine]
1. Medical Students for Choice?
“Choice” is a misnomer…choice means the choice to KILL an unborn baby. EVERYONE has ALWAYS had the “choice” to have their child. That’s the normal flow of things. When someone says choice they really mean the choice to have an abortion, as that’s the only choice up for debate. Choosing to have a child is not up for debate. Never has been. Pro-”choice” is pro-abortion, plain and simple fact that too many people lie about.
It scares me that medical students, that must swear an oath to protect life as doctors, will form groups in order to slaughter tens of millions of babies in this country every year. If this isn’t backwards as it gets, nothing is!
2. Notice how the idiot quoted here says the MEDIA (which is actually mostly pro-abortion) has somehow made this “simple” procedure into such a horrific thing. Well- killing an unborn child because you decided to take your pants off and you just don’t feel like having a baby around IS a big thing! The media doesn’t make this an emotionally traumatic event, you complete fool, it IS an emotionally traumatic event!!! How such ignorance can flow from the mouth of someone admitted to an ivy league school is just simply amazing.
If I take a gun with a small caliber bullet and shoot someone in the back of the head, it will make a small hole and there might be very little blood. If I demonstrated it, and I used a silencer- it would seem like no big deal really. Except for the dead person lying on the floor!!! Somehow when you go to Yale, they suck your brain out and things are “simple” events and no big deal merely because you can show someone how it’s done and it looks so easy. It’s sooo easssssy to kill babies. So, it must be okay. It musn’t be “emotionally traumatic”- that’s the silly media playing tricks on all you hicks!
This country is doomed, folks…this madness is proof of that.
I never even thought about this, except for the first night I got my XBOX 360, but I need to download some game demos. I’m downloading BATTLE STATIONS: MIDWAY, JUST CAUSE, CONDEMNED, and LOST PLANET overnight. Will try to report back on how they are. CONDEMNED I’ve been wanting to play…will try these, then download more demos and review what you’re actually able to play of all these games…
Off to bed for now…
I will try to debunk Bernstein’s many lies in this piece later today or tonight…
Needless to say- he’s clearly obsessed with Bush and infected with an extreme case of Bush-hatred…especially considering he wasn’t even being asked about Bush, but rather Nixon.
I see he also uses the tired dishonesty in claiming that Bush lied to take us to war, tho not a shred of evidence exists to suggest ANYONE lied about going to war in Iraq. Not Bush, not Cheney, not the Congress (both aisles- all of whom worked on the same intel Bush was going on), etc. Too many lies to handle in the short time I have- more later.
UPDATE: I lied- I had stuff going on tonight…off to bed. Will post tomorrow with this, I’m sure.
It says a lot when President Bush says we must have victory in Iraq, and the camera pans the crowd, and only those on the right side of the aisle are applauding.
I’ll assume this means the left side of the aisle doesn’t want us to succeed?
These people will do anything to oppose the president. Even if means failure in Iraq.
Don’t worry tho…they bolted in standing up to applaud when the military was mentioned. Oppose victory in Iraq- but make sure you look like the biggest supporters of the military possible…
Oppose, oppose, oppose- one day, we’ll hear an actual plan they might have for Iraq. One that is clearly in opposition of everything Bush will do, but we still don’t really know what their plan is…
Partisan bickering can mean great peril for all of us.
At a time when we need to come together…some refuse. The enemies within are always the ones that bring down great nations. The forces from within are the ones to fear the most.
Jim Webb with the Democrat’s response.
Imagine being a soldier in Iraq. Risking your life daily. While this joker says that the war was “unnecessary” and “mismanaged” and that we need to get out of Iraq. We basically had no business going to Iraq to begin with. Dems love the country. They really do. Imagine being a soldier hearing this- what would you think?
Webb says Bush took us into Iraq “recklessly.” This is disgusting.
We’re “held hostage” by the “predicted disarray”- we’ve damaged our reputation around the world, Webb says…the majority of our military doesn’t support the way this war is fought, he claims (this is total BS- the soldiers, for the most part, support the war and the way forward…)
He claimed we shouldn’t withdrawal from Iraq…but then he said that we should bring the war to a quick conclusion. He never called for victory, but rather called for a “proper conclusion.” History tells me that this means ‘a failure of Bush’s policy.’ (sigh)
Webb also claimed that the economy is poor…middle class Americans are in the slums, he’d have you believe. New polls shows that 80% of Americans see their personal finances as being good. Most Americans don’t see Webb’s imaginary oppression of the middle class.
This response was ridiculous…No doubt.
Largest ever conference comeback! Colts played terrible in the first half- were down 21 to 3 at one point.
The Patriots screwed themselves with two CRUSHING penalties in the fourth quarter. They had too many men in the huddle on their final offensive run- this screwed them. Brady was throwing well and would have had a 1st down without this mistake. Then the Patriots helped the Colts by roughing Manning (their second penalty) which allowed them to run the ball into the endzone easily.
